Michigan secretary of state and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson toured construction for a set of new affordable housing apartments being built in downtown Lansing by the Lansing Housing Commission, the public housing authority for the city that provides both rental housing units and voucher-based rental assistance to families in the greater Lansing area.
Doug Fleming, the executive director of the Lansing Housing Commission, met with Benson prior to leading the tour through the apartment complex.
He emphasized to her, Benson said after, “how critical state and federal support is for enabling communities like this to grow.”
“Our state agencies work often in silos, and sometimes we have data in one that could be useful for another,” she said. “It really also underscores to me the importance of our state agencies working in collaboration with one another to share data and to support people at every point, whether it’s in health and human services, housing or every point in between.”…
