18 graduate from Lansing Community College’s Corrections Academy

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – 18 students are now one step closer to becoming local corrections officers after graduating from Lansing Community College’s Corrections Academy Friday afternoon.

LCC Director of Public Service Careers, Tamara McDiarmid called corrections officers the “unsung heroes” of the justice system for the same reasons why it is often an area that faces staffing shortages.

“What we’re trying to do is maintain the necessary staffing to make sure that not only are the inmates safe and secure, but that the officers that are tasked with their care and custody also stay safe,” said McDiarmid.
