Ovid mayor accuses lawyer of defaming police chief

OVID, Mich. (WLNS) – Ovid Mayor Mary Perrien is accusing Lansing attorney Jack Rucker of defaming the village police chief in a statement he made after the dismissal of a lawsuit against the city and its police chief.

The accusation comes just over a week after a lawsuit, filed by former Ovid police officer Jaclyn Allen back in November 2025, was dismissed with prejudice. The suit accused Rousseau of intentionally filing a false affidavit related to Allen’s resignation.

After the case was dismissed, Allen’s attorney, Jack Rucker, sent a statement to WLNS, writing that, “Ultimately, it shocks the conscience to think that a police chief could engage in such wanton acts of dishonesty and face no ramifications.”

Now, Ovid’s mayor is responding, saying Rucker’s statement is untrue…
