Stage 1 fire restrictions to begin for Southern Nevada

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Stage 1 fire restrictions are set to begin in Southern Nevada on Friday due to increased fire danger, the Nevada Division of Forestry announced Thursday.

The fire restrictions will apply to Clark County and portions of Nye County starting May 29, until rescinded.

Stage 1 fire restrictions prohibit the following:

  • Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire (wood, charcoal, or any other material), campfire, or stove fire*. Except by permit or when in a developed fee campground or picnic area.
  • Following stoves permitted: portable stove using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or when stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
  • Operating or parking vehicles or other motorized equipment over or on top of dried/cured vegetation.
  • Welding, metal grinding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame (except by permit).

In addition to stage 1 restrictions, year-round fire Bureau of Land Management restrictions prohibit:

  • Possessing, discharging, using, or allowing the use of fireworks, pyrotechnic or incendiary devices.
  • Possessing, discharging, igniting, or causing explosives or explosive material to burn, including binary explosive targets.
  • Discharging a firearm using tracer, incendiary, or steel-component ammunition.
  • Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a properly installed and maintained spark arresting device in effective working order.

The restrictions apply to land within the following agencies and municipalities: Bureau of Indian Affairs; Bureau of Land Management; Bureau of Reclamation; Clark County Fire Department; Henderson Fire Department; Las Vegas Fire and Rescue; Mesquite Fire & Rescue; Moapa Valley Fire District; Mount Charleston Fire & Rescue; National Park Service, Nevada Division of Forestry; North Las Vegas Fire; Nye County Department of Emergency Management (Pahrump); U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; U.S. Forest Service; and U.S. Wildland Fire Service.
