LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Hundreds of Clark County children in foster care will start the school year with new backpacks, shoes and other essentials after a community donation drive raised more than $429,000.
A total of 1,700 children in Clark County foster care, from kindergarten through 12th grade, will receive new backpacks and school supplies through the Back-to-School Gear Giveaway for Foster Care hosted by Commissioner Jim Gibson and Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick. The effort generated $429,167.98 in donations and culminated Wednesday with a kickoff event at the Grand Prix Plaza, home of the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Organizers said additional community support led by Gibson and Kirkpatrick also provided another 300 backpacks and supplies for the biological children of families who open their homes as foster parents…
