Driver fleeing crash scene strikes, kills pedestrian, and flees that scene, police say

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Police are hoping the public can help locate a driver accused of running a red light, killing a pedestrian, and fleeing the scene.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan police, on Sunday, Jan. 28, around 3:30 p.m., the driver of a GMC Sierra pickup truck struck a 34-year-old man in a marked crosswalk on W. Lake Mead Boulevard at Tonopah Drive.

The driver of the 1992 black pickup truck (license plate# 958Y18) was fleeing from an earlier hit-and-run crash further west on Lake Mead Blvd. and was headed east when the pedestrian was struck, police said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County coroner’s office will release his identity. He is the 15th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2024.
