For the first time since it opened its doors, Century High School has won a national title.
Thanks in part to the impeccable coaching of Megan Brockett, who also made history as the first coach at Century to win a national title, the Century cheer program will bring a championship trophy back home.
The national cheerleading competition was held in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena with 204 schools assembling from as far away as Hawaii.
The process to get to that level of achievement required a lot of hard work and dedication from both players and coaches, along with a strong sense of competitive spirit and comradery that could be felt at every echelon of the competition.
“We qualified back in November down in Utah for this national competition,” Brockett said. “We used the feedback that we got from those judges down there and from other competitions in the area. And just through practice, applying that feedback (with) lots of repetition and bringing in other qualified individuals to help get another set of eyes on things. We did a lot of visualization, a lot of work in our journals to help prepare.”
