‘Timing is very suspicious,’ teachers union accuses Jara of resigning to protect contract payout

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Leaders of the Clark County Education Association believe CCSD Superintendent Jesus Jara’s sudden resignation announcement is timed to prevent a brewing scandal based on litigation pending against the superintendent who has overseen the district for the past five years.

“What’s suspicious about the timing of this is February 5 is the deadline for the superintendent’s attorney to hand over his Twitter account. We believe this information would be vital for the trustees yet on February 7 they are considering buying him out.” Marie Neisess, CCEA president said during a news conference Thursday. It is also the date the board plans to appoint Deputy Superintendent Brenda Larsen-Mitchell to the top job.

State leaders push to remove CCSD Superintendent Jara

In January, the teachers union took legal action against Jara regarding a tweet on what appeared to be Jara’s X account referring to the union leadership as “Crooked JV and his mistress Neisses.” The court filing also accuses the district of using a burner account to criticize the union during tense contact negotiations. Jara said his account was hacked.
