North Las Vegas student arrested for making false report of weapon on school campus

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Canyon Springs High School officials said a student was arrested Friday morning after making a false report of a weapon on the school’s campus.

According to the principal of the North Las Vegas high school, the school was placed on a brief lockdown on the morning of Friday, Feb. 2.

Principal Louis Markouzis wrote in a letter to families there was a rumor of a weapon on campus, prompting the lockdown. Clark County School District Police investigated and did not find a weapon.

Police arrested a student for making a false report, as making a false 911 report is a criminal offense.

Additionally, Principal Markouzis also said there was a report of a possible stabbing on the school’s campus. After investigating, police said that the report was unsubstantiated.

The lockdown was lifted shortly after the arrest and the school day continued as normal.
