North Las Vegas firefighter arrested for DUI, speeding on freeway

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police arrested a North Las Vegas firefighter on a DUI charge after a traffic officer allegedly clocked him driving well above the speed limit, according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, a Metro traffic officer riding on U.S. 95 northbound near Rancho Road noticed a car pass him “at a high rate of speed,” documents said. The officer paced the driver at 90 mph — 25 miles above the 65-mile-per-hour limit.

The driver, later identified as Christian Cordova, eventually pulled over near Ann Road, police said. The Metro officer noted Cordova smelled of an intoxicating beverage and “spoke with slurred and confused speech,” documents said.

The officer arrested Cordova on the DUI charge and transported him to the Las Vegas city jail. An arraignment was scheduled for January. As of Tuesday, Cordova did not face a charge for speeding.

A city spokesperson confirmed Cordova was a firefighter with the department. The spokesperson could not provide any other details of Cordova’s employment, citing personnel confidentiality.
