All eyes were on the Indiana Fever and the Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday, September 11, as the two teams faced off in what was a highly-anticipated matchup. Ultimately, it was the two-time defending champs Aces who secured a convincing 86-75 victory behind two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson’s incredible performance (27 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals, three blocks and zero turnovers).
Caitlin Clark did all she could for the Fever, but the rookie sensation fell short after a disappointing evening. Clark finished with 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting (1-of-10 from beyond the arc), three rebounds, six assists and five turnovers.
Clark has been on a tear of late, but the Aces dragged her back down to earth on Wednesday. It was not an ideal time for the 22-year-old to have a forgettable game, considering how she had a special guest in attendance.
This came in the form of University of Iowa President Barb Wilson, who made sure to catch up with her former student before the game. Wilson also reunited with Aces guard Kate Martin, who herself was Clark’s former teammate with the Hawkeyes.
