Cooler Temperatures and Light Showers Expected in Southern Nevada and Surrounding Areas

Southern Nevada braces for a brief cool spell and light precipitation as low-pressure system moves through.

Las Vegas to See Below-Normal Temperatures as Light Showers Impact Higher Elevations

[LAS VEGAS] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 1:15 AM PDT on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

Low-Pressure Trough Brings Cooler Weather

A trough of low pressure moving down the California coast will bring cooler temperatures and the potential for light showers to southern Nevada and the surrounding areas, including Inyo and Esmeralda counties, starting this evening. While no significant precipitation is expected due to limited moisture, elevated areas may see minor showers as the trough pushes further inland by Thursday night.

Precipitation Chances and Snow in Higher Elevations

The best chance for precipitation will be late Thursday night into Friday. This period brings a slight risk of weak convection over Clark, Inyo, Nye, and northern Mohave counties, with CAPE values ranging between 200-400 J/kg, but with minimal expected rainfall. Snow levels will remain above 9,000 feet, meaning any snow accumulation will be limited to high-elevation areas in the Sierra, White Mountains, and possibly the Spring Mountains.
