Las Vegas convicted felon sentenced to prison after shooting on Fremont Street

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A convicted felon was sentenced to seven years in prison after a shooting on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

DaJuan Lamar Gamble, also known as “Popeye,” 41, pleaded guilty to a felon in possession of firearms in October 2023. Gamble has prior felony convictions in Clark County including attempt to discharge a firearm at or into an occupied structure, vehicle, aircraft or watercraft, accessory to murder, possession of stolen property, and possession of controlled substance with intent to sell.

Since Gamble is a convicted felon he is prohibited by law to possess a firearm.

According to court documents, on Sept. 1, 2022, Gamble fired at least three shots from a semi-automatic pistol from a walkway of a motel on East Fremont Street at an SUV that was stopped in the street. A person inside the SUV fired at least two shots at Gamble.

Metro police later recovered a 9mm pistol and a Norinco MAX-90 7.62 x 30mm semi-automatic rifle in a black bag that was hidden in the boiler room of the motel. A records check shows that the pistol was previously stolen in Dallas, Texas.
