LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Las Vegas man paid thousands of dollars for a brand-new truck only to discover it had been stolen. Luckily his quick-thinking led police to a suspect.
Sherman Habibian found a new GMC truck for sale on Facebook Marketplace and negotiated a deal with the seller. After talking to the seller, matching the VIN, and looking at the title he paid the seller nearly $53,000 in cash for the truck.

Habibian then took the truck to the DMV.
“I’m sitting at the VIN Inspection and when they pull up on you and the lights come on my stomach just dropped,” Habibian explained.
“It was a VIN switched stolen vehicle, so we had to impound it, so he was also out the vehicle,” explained JD Decker, the Chief of the Compliance Enforcement Division, the DMV’s police unit.
The DMV typically sees nearly three cases a week such as this at the DMV, and most of the cases go unsolved.
Fortunately for this case, the buyer had captured a crucial clue.
