A Sky-High Cocktail Bar in Las Vegas Gets a Stunning Redesign

One of Las Vegas’s best bars for taking in views of the Las Vegas Strip skyline is getting a snazzy redesign and a new theme on Thursday, March 20. The Waldorf Astoria has closed its Skybar on the 23rd floor and is opening the new Peacock Alley lounge for afternoon tea. In addition, a cocktail destination called the Hard Shake bar will serve martinis for imbibers gazing out over Las Vegas Boulevard.

The big changes are part of the property’s ongoing renovation which includes a redesign of the guest rooms and suites and relocation of the 23rd-floor lobby and front desk to the ground floor. The Rockwell Group, which has designed other high-design Vegas venues like Wakuda and Cathedrale, helmed the designs for both Peacock Alley and Hard Shake.

The Skybar, which was also briefly renamed the Hotel Bar, received an overhaul that did away with the brightly lit white walls with cracked craters in the wall that look like Hulk’s fists left them there. The updated Hard Shake swaps in an Art Deco-style aesthetic with a marbled dark stone bar and a gold light fixture casts a warm, moody glow over the space. The menu was also redesigned with new cocktails like the Katana — a blend of Japanese whiskey and scotch with pecan bitters. A late-night menu features honey shrimp with candied walnuts.

The Waldorf will continue to host its popular afternoon tea service on the 23rd floor. The Peacock Alley will serve tea around a new feather-shaped bar The tea service still includes dainty sandwiches, scones, pastries, and a robust assortment of tea blends.

Both new venues are open now. Hard Shake is open from 6 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Peacock Alley hosts tea service at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and is open for lounge seating from 11 a.m. to midnight Monday and Tuesday.
