A six-year-old boy sustained possible life-threatening injuries when a large piece of asphalt crashed through the windshield of the car in which he was riding, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced in a statement.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 28, at around 7:45 a.m. local time as the victim was traveling through Spring Valley in an SUV along with a 34-year-old female driver and a four-year-old child. The six-year-old, whose name has not been publicly released, was struck by a “large portion of asphalt” when it became “dislodged” from another vehicle traveling in front of them. The victim sustained possible life-threatening injuries, though miraculously, the four-year-old child was uninjured. Authorities identified the driver of the second car as Makayla Engstrum.
First responders quickly arrived and transported the child to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada with “critical injuries.” Police later confirmed that the young victim had incurred “life-threatening injuries” in the accident. The incident is still under investigation, with authorities currently trying to determine the relationship between the two children and the 34-year-old woman driving the vehicle.
