Prepare for some serious slowdowns if you’re planning to traverse Interstate 215 near Las Vegas over the next week. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has rolled out a schedule that’s going to pinch lanes and shutter some ramps as a part of their pavement preservation project on the freeway. According to NDOT’s announcement, the stretch of I-215 from the I-15 interchange to Windmill Lane is up for a makeover in a project that will involve paving and bridge deck repairs.
Starting tomorrow, the eastbound lanes of I-215 will be whittled down to two lanes up until Windmill Lane, then to one lane during specific nights throughout the week. Westbound traffic won’t be spared either; it faces similar constrictions. The NDOT is reminding drivers to exercise caution through these work zones and to consider alternative routes if they can.
Overnight closures will be a theme for the week, with work kicking off at 8:00 p.m. and running until 6:00 a.m. the next day. Pinpoints of disruption include full closures of the north and southbound I-15 ramps to eastbound I-215 and the off and on-ramps at Warm Springs Road at different points throughout the week. The highlight, or perhaps lowlight for those caught unawares, will be the Marathon Work Weekend starting Friday at 9:00 p.m., which will see eastbound I-215 reduced to a single lane until the work ceases on Sunday morning…
