Las Vegas valley convicted murderer on parole sentenced for cold case 2003 murder

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Emotions were high in a Las Vegas courtroom on Wednesday as the two tearful daughters of a woman murdered in 2003 spoke at the sentencing of a man who recently pleaded guilty to that murder.

Convicted murderer Ricky Trader, 48, was on parole for another 2003 murder when he was arrested and charged in July 2024 with the murder of Theresa Romano after his DNA connected him to Romano’s case.

Clark County District Court Judge Michelle Leavitt sentenced Trader from 10 to 25 years for Romano’s murder. Due to a plea deal, which reduced his charge to second-degree murder, Trader will serve that sentence at the same time he serves the remainder of his previous murder sentence, where he violated parole. He had served 18 years of the 10-to-25-year sentence for that murder.

He will be in prison for at least 10 years.
