Las Vegas-area high school adds crossing guards after student’s death

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Three local high schools now have crossing guards, which is a change that comes after months of parents pushing for safer streets. One of those schools is Arbor View High School in Centennial Hills, where a student was killed while walking to school a few months ago.

Weekdays are a mix of traffic and teens, with dozens of cars and students all moving at once, along Buffalo Drive near Arbor View High School. Until recently, it was a group of determined moms who volunteered to get students across the street safely.

“Traffic before was horrific; it was terrible. The kids had to play ‘Frogger’ to get across the street,” Krista Holloway, Founder of Walk Safely LV, said. “I came out here twice a day. I would come in the morning. I would come in the afternoon for roughly 30 minutes to an hour each time.”…
