Lake Mead recreationalists faced potentially hazardous conditions on Tuesday as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a wind advisory for the area.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution,” the NWS warned in its wind advisory for the area. “Boating in these conditions will be difficult and potentially dangerous with risk of capsizing small vessels,” it added.
What To Know
In a wind advisory for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the northwest deserts, the NWS said south winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 45 mph, were expected.
“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and kick up pockets of blowing dust. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result,” the alert said. It added that the gusty winds would result in elevated waves, as well as dangerous boating conditions on both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave.
