Measles cases east of Las Vegas now total 201, with 23 new infections in a week

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Measles cases in southwest Utah and northern Mohave County, Arizona, broke the 200 mark — now 201 — this week as 23 new infections were confirmed in the region.

Reports on Tuesday from health departments in the two states showed 68 cases in Utah’s five-county region (Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane and Washington counties) and 133 in Mohave County. The measles outbreak began earlier this year in the neighboring border towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona. That community is about 160 miles east of Las Vegas.

A new exposure at an elementary school in Hildale appeared on the Utah Department of Health & Human Services web page, along with an exposure in the Salt Lake City suburb of Taylorsville.
