Another storm headed to Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Mackerel clouds fanned out across our skies Thursday morning ahead of the next and final storm hitting California.

  • Waves of clouds & sunshine today
  • Chances of rain and mountain snow tonight & Friday
  • Warmer and drier weekend
  • Nice Thanksgiving week with normal mid-60s

This type of cirrocumulus or altocumulus cloud cover commonly indicates changing weather ahead and usually arrives within 24 hours of rain. Clear skies overnight allowed temperatures to drop to very chilly low 40s in some neighborhoods and even into the 30s outside the valley. Waves of clouds will come and go today with highs in the upper 50s by the afternoon.

The third and final storm in this series is bringing rain and mountain snow to the west, pushing into western Nevada around Reno. It will eventually swing into southern Nevada tonight. Rain chances could begin by the evening commute, with better chances overnight and on Friday. This last system will not bring as heavy rainfall or snow as the first two this week. But winter weather alerts have been issued for the mountains.

*Winter Weather Advisory for the Clark County mountains starting at 1 p.m. today until 8 a.m. Friday (snow levels around 6000 feet could see several inches of snow, with up to a foot possible in the highest elevations)
