Measles cases growing by at least 20 per week in southwest Utah-Arizona region

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A measles outbreak in southwest Utah and northwest Arizona has been growing steadily, with at least 20 new cases each week for the past four weeks.

Tuesday updates from the state health departments show 149 measles cases in northern Mohave County, Arizona, and 74 in a five-county region in southwest Utah, including Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane and Washington counties. The combined total is now at 223, up from 201 a week ago. At the end of October, cases numbered 158.

It’s the second-largest outbreak in the U.S. this year, behind the Gaines County, Texas, where 762 cases were confirmed this year.

The outbreak began in the neighboring towns of Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah. That area is about 160 miles east of Las Vegas, where only one measles case has been reported in 2025…
