Las Vegas police: Impaired driver clocked 123 mph before crash that killed chef

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A driver who police suspect was impaired was traveling at 123 mph — more than four times the speed limit — when he collided with another car, killing a chef headed home from work, according to documents 8 News Now obtained.

Las Vegas Metro police detained Rogelio Camacho, 41, after the crash in the intersection of St. Louis Avenue and 6th Street on Saturday, Dec. 6. Julio Nave-Giron, 46, a chef who his family said was driving home at the time, died in the crash, the coroner’s office confirmed.

Investigators believe Camacho was speeding when he failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into Nave-Giron, who was proceeding through the intersection, documents said.

Police obtained video, which they said shows Camacho speeding, running red lights and darting in and out of traffic for several blocks before the crash, documents said…
