LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada (NHSSN) held its sixth annual “Winter Wonderland” food distribution, serving 600 Las Vegas families Saturday.
At the Mater Academy East Las Vegas campus, families received ingredients for a holiday meal, including turkey, eggs and vegetables. They also received gift cards to grocery stores and a blanket to stay warm during the holidays.

Kimberly Dorn, marketing, events and policy manager for NHSSN, said the “Winter Wonderland” started as a way to bring together and support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We saw the need. The first year we served 100 families, the second year, we were able to serve 200, and we realized that every year more and more people were coming out and needed these types of services and this type of help,” Dorn said.
Among those volunteers were Major League Baseball’s Athletics, along with mascot Stomper. Stephanie Gaywood, Senior Director with the Athletics, said giving back to the community is part of the team’s DNA, and is something they’ll continue to do beyond their arrival in a few years’ time…
