Las Vegas police officer faces domestic battery charge after allegedly hitting wife during argument

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas police officer faces a domestic battery charge after he allegedly hit his wife during a fight over a cell phone, according to an arrest report.

The 8 News Now Investigators first reported Las Vegas Metro police officer Gary Moody’s arrest on charges of domestic battery and preventing or dissuading a person from reporting a crime, records said. Moody joined the department in 2022 as a recruit and works in the Bolden Area Command.

On Dec. 20, around 4:30 p.m., a woman called 911 and reported that Moody battered her and was no longer at the residence.

The woman told police that on Dec. 19, Moody left the home and stopped responding to her phone calls and text messages, leading her to believe that he was being unfaithful. When she got hold of him, he was at a bar he frequented due to what she described as a “severe alcohol dependency,” the report said.

The next day, Moody invited the woman to dinner and when she entered his vehicle, she smelled a strong odor of alcohol and mouthwash coming from him.
