LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada neighbors may be dreaming of a white Christmas—just like that one they used to know—but where Mt. Charleston treetops glisten, NV Energy workers are on a mission to pull covered lines ahead of possible snow.
Meghin Delaney, the NV Energy media relations manager, said their team’s meteorologists are watching a Christmas atmospheric storm closely as it steers toward Southern Nevada with expected rainfall on Wednesday.

“That same rain can also wreak a lot of havoc on our electrical system and on the grid, which can lead to power outages,” she said. “We’ve seen that before.”
The storm could bring snow at higher elevations, like Mt. Charleston, but Delaney said their crews have updated their equipment following the mountain debris from Tropical Storm Hillary.
“We’ve been working on the substation up there,” Delaney said. “They’ve been working on pulling a new covered conductor, which is stronger wire up there. They can withstand more of this.”…
