Today, we are exploring some of the different street names in the Las Vegas Valley. From streets named for celebrities to some that have changed names over the years. Many are very unique, and others are just wacky.
Las Vegas Boulevard was formerly known as Highway 91, Arrowhead Highway or Los Angeles Highway. The portion from Russell Rd to Sahara Ave is now called the Las Vegas Strip, named by a Los Angeles Police Officer for the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.
Many of the streets that cross the Strip are named for current or former casinos. Sahara Ave (was San Francisco St), Desert Inn Rd (was Wilbur Clark D.I. Rd), Flamingo Ave (was Monson Rd), Tropicana Ave (was Bond Rd) and Hacienda Ave (portions are now called Mandalay Bay Rd)…
