The streets of Las Vegas claimed their third traffic-related fatality of the year when a motorcycle collided with a car on New Year’s Day. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that around 10:29 PM, at the busy intersection of East Craig Road and North Lamont Street, the encounter between a 2010 Honda Accord and a 2012 Can-Am Spyder resulted in the tragic death of the motorcyclist, according to the LVMPD’s release.
The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old male whose name is currently withheld pending notification, was traveling eastbound on Craig Road. Patricia Jauregui, the 46-year-old driver of the Honda, was attempting to make a left turn onto Lamont Street, failing to yield the right of way to the oncoming motorcycle, leading to the inevitable clash. The impact was such that it ejected the rider of the Can-Am onto the roadway, where he met a fatal end.
While the driver of the Honda claimed no injuries from the mishap, her right front passenger, identified as 51-year-old Santiago Lopez-Lopez, reported minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital.
