Brightline West Breaks Ground on High-Speed Rail

The drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas takes four hours on a good day, and six or more when traffic backs up at the California border. Now a privately funded rail project is promising to cut that trip in half.

Brightline West is building a 218-mile, all-electric high-speed line that will hit 200 mph and carry passengers between Southern California and the Strip in about two hours.

Construction is underway, costs have ballooned, and the race is on to get trains running by 2029.
