Henderson City Council to consider $250K settlement after police sergeant strikes woman

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Henderson City Council is expected to approve a $250,000 settlement after a Henderson police sergeant struck a woman. The 8 News Now Investigators first exposed the video from Oct. 26, 2024, showing Scott Alward striking Nakeisha Kelly.

The settlement is noted as an agenda item for the Jan. 20 council meeting, and described as “Settlement agreement between the City of Henderson and Nakeisha Kelly, in the total amount of $250,000, to resolve all potential disputes between Kelly and the city of Henderson related to an October 2024 alleged use of force incident, including any possible state or federal lawsuit.”

Attorney Andre Lagomarsino represents Kelly and sent the 8 News Now Investigators a statement, which reads in part, “I was injured physically and emotionally. I needed medical and psychological treatment, which I can pay for from the settlement. The legal case ends but the trauma from the incident continues.”

The incident occurred near Morrell Park by Boulder Highway and Basic Road. Kelly said she was drinking wine with her sister and they had an altercation. Kelly’s family member and a bystander called for help. Alward responded.“Follow simple instructions. Get in front of my car! Do it now!” Alward said. “You’re going to get taken to the ground if you don’t listen to me now.”
