LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A group of Las Vegas homeowners filed a lawsuit against the Southern Nevada Water Authority this week, claiming the targeting of “useless” grass has killed 100,000 trees.
“For generations, Las Vegas Valley residents have grown the green canopy with trees and plants that cool, reduce energy costs, improve property values, and provide comfort and recreation for millions,” the lawsuit read. “But now, Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) is destroying Las Vegas invaluable tree canopy virtually overnight.”

The lawsuit, which began with a quote from Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax (“We speak for the trees.”), claimed that under the guise of removing “useless” grass, SNWA (along with the Las Vegas Valley Water District and the City of Henderson Department of Utility Services and others) left “hundreds of trees for dead daily.”
The lawsuit specifically mentioned that “alarmingly, only SNWA gets to decide what ‘useless’ turf means without any meaningful ability to challenge that decision.”…
