North Las Vegas — A woman detained at the city’s jail has filed a lawsuit claiming a corrections officer’s violent actions and subsequent neglect of her medical needs directly caused the loss of her pregnancy.[1][2]

Brandy Hood entered the North Las Vegas Detention Center on August 30, 2025, after authorities took her into custody over a traffic violation.[1] The 27-year-old, who was roughly one month pregnant, spent about two days in a cell described as filthy with remnants of old food and hygiene items scattered about. Tensions rose quickly between Hood and corrections officer Nimi Isaac amid exchanges laced with racial remarks.

Isaac ordered Hood out of her cell. She complied, hands behind her back. What followed, according to the lawsuit, was a sudden grab, a slam of her head against the cell structure, a drag across the floor, and a knee pressed into her back that left her gasping for air and on the verge of blacking out. Hood informed Isaac multiple times of her pregnancy during the ordeal. He allegedly warned her he would shoot if she resisted further. Abdominal pain set in immediately afterward.[2]

Medical Pleas Ignored Amid Pain

Requests for medical attention and basic sanitary supplies went unheeded. Officers provided only tissue in response to Hood’s urgent needs. She endured the discomfort until her release.
