Former Las Vegas business owner faces prison time for not paying $1.2M in taxes

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A former business owner pleaded guilty Thursday to not paying employment taxes on behalf of the cleaning company she owned, causing a tax loss to the government of $1.2 million, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Deborah Meadows, 64, owned and operated the A to Z Employment Services LLC, a company that provided carpet, upholstery, and roadside cleaning services. An IRS investigation found that, beginning in 2010, Meadows withheld taxes from her employees’ wages but failed to remit them to the IRS. She also didn’t file individual tax returns.

The DOJ said in a news release that once Meadows became aware of the investigation, she obstructed justice by altering bank and tax records. She is facing a maximum penalty of five years in prison. She is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court on May 21, 2026…
