Latino families seeking shelter at Las Vegas Rescue Mission doubles compared to last year

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – The number of Latino families seeking help at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission’s family shelter has doubled compared to this time last year, according to staff at the organization.

Staff says they are seeing more parents choose support over silence, pushing past a stigma that has long kept some in the Latino community from asking for help.

‘You gotta be the man’

Eddie Ramos, a Las Vegas father, came to the shelter with his 10-year-old son Bernicio after deciding he needed to act to keep his son safe. The two have been living at the shelter for a few months while working to get back on their feet.
