Henderson Polynesian and Pacific Islander event faces ‘shocking’ fee, city defends

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Terann Enriques felt she was called upon to organize a neighborhood Polynesian and Pacific Islander event, but after an email from the City of Henderson, she expressed concerns about protecting her around 70 vendors.

The Killah Kine Makeke event was scheduled to set up at Anthem Hills Park on April 18, but was then shifted to Cornerstone Park after a request from the City of Henderson over occupancy. The change in venue increased costs from $500 to $2,085, the event organizer was allegedly told questions about the fee they could be answered Tuesday—the same day the fee is owed.

“If it was just me, I would have been like ‘Hey, forget it,’ but because these vendors depend on me and I feel like it’s my responsibility that I needed to make sure it happens,” the event coordinator, Taran Enriques, said.
