Students honor fallen Metro Officer Marc Kahre with tribute at elementary school

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Students at Marc Kahre Elementary School held a special tribute on campus this morning to honor the school’s namesake, Metro Police Officer Marc Kahre, who was killed in the line of duty.

Kahre joined Metro Police in 1975. He died Oct. 11, 1988, when a suspect jumped out of his car and began shooting at Kahre while he was on his motorcycle. He was 34 years old and a 13-year veteran of the department.

The school’s principal said the event helps students connect with the history behind the school’s name. “So the kids understand what the namesake is… just a fun day to celebrate,” the principal said. The principal also pointed to the value of building ties with law enforcement, saying, “I think it’s important for them to develop that relationship… nice to have that partnership with them.”…
