DECATUR, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — DeKalb County has approved its first-ever housing trust fund, committing $15 million per year toward creating or preserving 15,000 homes — the largest housing investment in the county’s history.
The move follows a 2023 study that found one in three people in DeKalb County are struggling to afford housing. County leaders said the fund comes as federal housing assistance has declined.
“These resources are coming to DeKalb County at just the right time,” said Alan Ferguson, DeKalb’s chief housing officer.
Who the funds will serve
The money is earmarked to assist first-time homebuyers, legacy residents, seniors, the county’s two day centers for homelessness assistance, and the DeKalb Housing Authority for development projects…
