Heat Advisory and Weekend Weather
WALTON COUNTY — (Sept. 4, 2026 )— Residents across Walton County, Gwinnett County and much of Northeast Georgia are under a Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Saturday, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 106 degrees.
The National Weather Service advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, remain in air conditioning when possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and check on elderly relatives, neighbors and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.
Here’s what to expect through next week according to the Hazardous Weather Outlook from NWS
- Friday: Hot and humid, with heat index values exceeding 100 degrees. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible, primarily later in the day. Some storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.
- Saturday: Dangerous heat continues, with heat index values potentially reaching the low to mid-100s. The Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms are possible.
- Sunday: Heat index values are expected to remain above 100 degrees across much of the region, while afternoon thunderstorms remain possible.
- Monday through Thursday: The heat should gradually become less dominant, but daily afternoon thunderstorm chances are expected to continue. A few storms could become strong to severe, with the primary threats being 40- to 50-mph wind gusts, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.
