2 South Ga. teachers make finalists for 2026 Georgia Teacher of the Year

ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) – The Georgia Department of Education (DOE) announced the finalists for the 2026 Georgia Teacher of the Year, which includes two teachers from South Georgia.

Throughout the month of March, State School Superintendent Richard Woods surprised each finalist in their classroom to let them know they’d been selected, according to the release from the Georgia DOE.

The two teachers from South Georgia include:

  • Laura Ray, teaches math, science, and social studies at Berrien Elementary School.
  • Tracey Woodcock, teaches biology and environmental science at Lee County High School’s Ninth Grade Campus.

All 10 finalists will meet with a panel of judges for formal interviews and speeches before the 2026 Georgia Teacher of the Year selection in May…
