GBI warns public of scam targeting offenders

ATLANTA, Ga. (WSAV) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is warning the public about a current ongoing scam targeting registered offenders.

Scammers are posing as law enforcement and calling individuals on the sex offender registry. They demand money, instructing victims to:

  • Go to Walmart
  • Purchase a money order
  • Give them the number
  • Take the receipt to the sheriff’s office

It is not till after that victims find out it was all a scam.
