New Southern Restaurant and Bar Opening in Stone Mountain Village

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — Live Oak Restaurant and Tap is preparing to open in the next couple of weeks at 947 Main St, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 after completing inspections, owner Jonathan Hartnett told Business Debut.

The concept is an ode to Georgia, with the restaurant name nodding to the state tree and serving as a counterpart to Hartnett’s other Stone Mountain Village restaurant, Cherokee Rose, named for the state flower.

What to Expect

Live Oak is designed as a more casual “brother-sister” companion to Cherokee Rose, with a lower check average and a focus on everyday neighborhood dining. Hartnett said the goal is also tied to his broader effort to help redevelop Stone Mountain Village.

The space includes about 50 seats inside and a 35-seat patio, for roughly 80 to 85 seats total. The building dates to 1912 and follows a “shotgun” layout, with a straight sightline from the front door to the back door, Hartnett told Business Debut.

Menu and Vision

The menu is built around simple, traditional Georgia and Southern-inspired items, with Hartnett saying he researched older recipes as a starting point. Expect boiled peanuts prepared in-house, hand-dipped fish, and hand-dipped chicken, along with pimento cheese on white bread, chicken salad, tomato sandwiches, and black-eyed pea hummus…
