Pepsi drivers in Atlanta and Lithonia unionize with Teamsters

Over 100 PepsiCo drivers at shops in Atlanta and Lithonia voted to unionize with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 528 this month.

“We joined the Teamsters because we were mistreated, underpaid, and needed to get rid of favoritism in the workplace,” said Kamian Vaughn, who’s worked as a PepsiCo driver for 13 years at the Atlanta shop, in a Teamsters statement. “We are ready to now fight for a fair first contract,” he added.

The 44 PepsiCo drivers at the Northwest Atlanta shop voted 30-12 to unionize on Jan. 15, with 2 nonvoters. The 59 drivers in the Lithonia PepsiCo shop on Jan. 20 resoundingly voted 43-9 to follow suit, with 7 absent voters, according to Chuck Stiles, the Teamsters Local 528 chief.

“These drivers remained united throughout the entire campaign and won, despite their employer’s union-busting efforts,” said Kip Cortez, Local 528 Business Agent in the Teamsters statement. “I’d like to thank the community and members of the Atlanta City Council for offering support to our new members during their fight to organize.”…
