Principal credits weapons detector for finding gun in student’s bag at South Gwinnett High School

SNELLVILLE, Ga. — A student fled from South Gwinnett High School after a weapons detector discovered a gun in their bag, according to the school’s principal, Rodney Jordan.

The incident took place on Mar. 23 when a student tried to enter the school through the new Evolv weapons detection system, which is now installed at every middle and high school in the county.

Jordan says that at that time, an alert went off, which required an “administrative search.” During the search, officials found a firearm, and the student fled the school’s campus…
