BURGIN, Ky. (FOX 56) — Tempers flared Thursday night as hundreds of people packed a Burgin City Council meeting to oppose a proposed land annexation tied to a potential data center project.
The meeting on July 9 marked the city’s second attempt to begin the annexation process. A meeting last month was canceled after officials determined it did not meet Kentucky’s Open Meetings requirements because the notice failed to include both Eastern and Central time.
The proposed annexation would bring county land into the City of Burgin, where officials said the project could be regulated through a developer’s agreement instead of a planning and zoning commission. Burgin did not have its own planning and zoning commission, while Mercer County does.
