LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Fayette County Emergency Management is offering guidance on how to build an emergency go-kit as September marks National Emergency Management Awareness Month.
Basic supplies
An emergency pack should hold the things a household needs in case people need to leave their home for a period of time.
“So every family should have a few basic things when they’re building their emergency kit that includes the flashlight, first aid kit, weather radio, food, and water for up to 96 hours,” said Emily Fay, public information officer for Fayette Emergency Management.
Personalizing the kit
Families should also personalize their kits for their household’s needs, including medication, pet supplies and extra pairs of prescription eyeglasses.
Officials recommend keeping these items in water-proof tubs in easy-to-reach locations in the home…
