LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Flock cameras became a major topic during public comment at the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council meeting Thursday, despite not being on the agenda.
On Aug. 27, members of the Bluegrass chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America called on the city to cancel its contract with Flock Safety and remove the automated license plate reader cameras within six months. The group also wants data collected by the cameras deleted unless it is connected to an active case.
“The main ones are the immediate cancellation of the city’s contract with Flock and then the banning of future ALPR technologies from being deployed,” Bluegrass DSA Co-Chair Noah Cornett said.
