LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A federal deadline to review Temporary Protected Status for Ukraine has passed, and thousands of Ukrainians in Kentucky do not know what it means for their future.
Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, is a humanitarian designation that allows people from countries experiencing conflict to stay in the United States.
Deadline passes without word
According to Tetiana Soloshchuk, founder of Soloshchuk Immigration Support, federal law required the Department of Homeland Security to decide by Aug. 20 whether to extend TPS for Ukraine. That deadline has passed. She said TPS for Ukraine is set to expire Oct. 19.
