Alleged theft at Shell station leads to foot chase

A man faces multiple charges following an incident at a local Shell gasoline station.

Jazzie Austin, 36, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition shoplifting, 1st-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, and 1st and 2nd offense alcohol intoxication in a public place.

According to the arrest citation, on Sunday, Jan. 21st, Winchester police were dispatched to an undisclosed Shell location about a male subject who previously shoplifted a container of Delta 8, a cannabinoid producing psychoactive effects, from the Corner Vape & Tobacco Store on N. Maple Street.

When the officer arrived, the owner of the Shell station pointed out Austin, the male in question.

As the officer attempted to contact Austin, he allegedly circled a vehicle, stating he had done nothing wrong.

When the officer walked toward the male, Austin allegedly began running away, crossing multiple lanes of traffic before running north in the northbound lane of Maple Street and crossing over the Southbound lane before getting on the sidewalk.
