KENTUCKY ( FOX 56 ) — A child in a Louisville hospital was in a dangerous state after nearly starving.
According to an arrest citation, a social worker, who received a complaint from Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, called Frankfort police about the condition of 39-year-old Sheena Wood’s son, who was a patient.

Wood’s son, described as a physically helpless juvenile, had developed a deadly condition known as refeeding syndrome. The syndrome is a web of physical complications that are caused by starvation.
The citation said the juvenile was admitted to the hospital to be treated for bedsores, but during that treatment, his severe malnourishment was discovered.
Wood is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal abuse, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
